like Dead Prez said...it's "bigger than hiphop" ya dig? That's why there is such a disconnect these days and why I will still proclaim hiphop is dead just like Nas. There's too much going on for rappers to be singing about lollipops! But that's why I visit this blog, bcoz I think artists like Deev are on the right track. To aspiring artists out there.."you got a voice? Well use it!"

You know Freddy 9 times out of 10 you seem to miss the point in attempt to say something that will garner reaction. Honestly right now with the verdict of Sean Bell coming in as yet another show of blatant injustice your comment no we don't need the overwhelming surplus of stupid shit. Your comment is inappropriate and for lack of a better word, corny. Step it up.

I think "Just A Moment" or "One Mic" would be most appropriate, given the circumstances.

While writing my blog post on the case, I used this quote from Gandhiji, which is very appropriate:

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it--always."

I hope that it helps all of you as much as it did me to think about that.

normally i wouldn;t even respond, but...

first off i commented on how i felt about the Sean Bell verdict in an early post, so if you keep up with your comments Ms.Diva you would see that I indeed am aware and know how take take things seriously when appropiate...

Secondly my comment in this particular quagmire was in direct response to the post preceding mine, so it was within context of the situated statement from "Frank", whose comment I not only relate to, but in many aspects can respect...

Thirdly, 9 times outta 10 i don't miss the point. I believe I always make sure that I state that I understand people's point of view (most of the time )or opinion and sympathize with it (which if you read my comment carefully, I indeed understood Frank's sentiments this time as well), yet I express my disagreement, to whatever degree it may be, to the opposing viewside. Once again rather than have a open mind to discourse you write me off as inept within the realm of understandability, which (with all do respect, I know it's your blog and you can cry if you want to) seems rather unintelligent.

Lastly, I find it troublesome that you regard a disagareement or difference in educated opinion to that of yours as a direct objection to everything you or like-minded people might feel. Truth of the matter is less than substance-worthy songs have a place in society. When Sugar-Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" came about, the lyric " bust you off with my SUPERSPERM" wasn't necesarily a highlight in lyricism or substance, but it had it's place. Which is the point I was making. If the Mighty Casey comment diverged you from that point...than I kinda wanna say sorry for that...then again that would just seem like I am excusing your elite-est tone, which I won't do (sorry if that seems ballsy, being it your blog in all).

Finally if I wanted to garner attention I would comment on every single post like some of the others, but I don't. I comment when I fell it is necessary and/or entertaining to do so. The fact that I even bother to comment should indicate I am a sane minded fan of yours...further more, a more indepth fan because I am not afraid to disagree with you or object to something you might say/post...

If all you wanted was folks to hump your leg and go hook, line, and sinker with your every thought of yours then I regret having held a level of esteem for you and your works, but if that is not the case and you truly feel disrespected or like I was totally inappropiate, my bad...

and to all the niggas who will pucker up to Ms. Diva's ass in defense of her without making a valid point that shows independent conscienceness and consciousness you will never matter...

I know niggas don't read and I hate when people post ESSAY comments, but i ain't cliff-noting this one...if it survives...READ IT

and with even more respect and sincerety, what does the Bell verdict have to do with wack hiphop songs?

Real Talk.

"Everyone who has been on this ride with me since the beginning and continues to be a supporter of music that makes you feel something true and vulnerable and honest by being just that.

It's been a wonderful and awful journey all at the same time. Mostly leaning towards the wonderful part..lol.

Thank you for letting me share what I could with you and sharing yourselves back, as you have really been the reason that I kept on.

It's always nice to know that you could be the voice of someone who didn't have one, or know just how to say it.
No comment or letter or statement of appreciation has ever gone unnoticed.
I love to write, I love to be able to create imagery and a world out of just words.

I will always love what I consider to be true hip hop music... from the bottom of my soul.

I hope you will continue to distinguish those who are contributors to the evolution of hip hop and other black music as both an auditory stimulation and a culture, taking care that they are put in a position to do so.

Thank you listeners, whom I consider my friends and family....

Enjoy.... see y'all around..

It's been amazing.. thank you again.

I actually understand where freddy is coming from. It seems like people are scared to disagree with diva on this blog. Everytime I come on here, everybody is co signing everything she says. Look, you can be a fan of somebody without agreeing with everything they say. Diva is the perfect example of that with Nas so I think freddy was on point with most of what he said. The only thing is it looked like he was trying to get a little rise out of you which was kind of funny.

www.myspace.com/AmandaDiva said...

People disagree with me all the time. And I say nothing. They're entitled. But if you think getting a rise out of me is funny when I'm addressing a topic that's serious then you like Freddy aren't welcome on this blog either. Opinions are cool, disrespect i.e. "if you want folks to kiss your ass...for those who want to suck Diva off" etc. is unaccaptable. This internet got folks thinking they can talk any kind of way...

Chill, The point im making is that people tend to just cosign just to cosign. Every time I visit i see the same thing. Maybe people disagree with you when Im not around, im not saying that doesnt happen. Realize I said "the only thing", I acknowledged that this is something that freddy is doing to get a rise out of you that he should chill on, never the less its funny seeing him do it. Thats all im saying. If you feel that me saying that I agree with most of what freddy is saying is disrespectful than eh, theres nothing I can do.

To point back to the original topic of the post, yes were in seriious times. But people alot of times (yes even the mainstream garbage non conscious music.) relates to how a person is or their distinct mood. I as a fan of hip hop, have times I wanna listen to serious rap ( after i read about the sean bell verdict, the album that came to my mind was lets get free) and times I wanna listen to sheek louch talk about popping you in the head, or lil wayne talking about girls and lollipops. The problem is not the shallow content cause they have their place in some of our lives, the problem is the variety of it.

Im not trying to be rebellious per say or any silly shit like that. Im just saying.

I don't cosign on everything Amanda Diva has to say. but i do respect her opinions, in which she articultes her point of view, it has nothing to do with being scared, scared of what a debate, give me a break, jokes have there time and place, and the Sean Bell relating to a hip-hop song is not one of them

Frank said...

aight lemme throw in my piece, Amanda I know I have disagreed with you on a few issues, and I didn't find any resultant problem from differing with her. freddy the fact is you made a highly inappropriate comment on that day and alot of people were angry after that verdict, so Amanda's response was right on the mark. You should have acknowledged that fact and kept it moving, but you went on this long essay length rant against Amanda which revealed you may have some personal issues with her. Now I don't know if you know her personally but you may need to deal with that beforehand. I didn't respond to this earlier because I thought it a distraction from what Amanda's trying to do. So as Nas said "One Love" now let's keep this ship moving.

I know i'm late, let me say, if frederick knows Amanda on a personal level,
i find the essay to be most disrespectful
